What is the best way to add a bitmap of 56 k without adding 56k to the size of the PDF?

Thanks,

Bob

To reduce the size of the Pdf I just used a JPG instead. Reduced size by over 100 KB

Hi Bob,

first i've thought you're joking ;-)
If you INSERT a compressed image INTO a pdf where should the image data go?
If you insert the data it's in the pdf with the same size.

Here is an interesting article about these things from Rowan (a main Debenu-/Foxit-member):

Cheers,
Ingo

Debenu does have a command to CompressImages which didn't seem to do anything.

Previously we used Ddoc which PowerBasic programmers have used in the past. It only allowed BMP's originally.

Just trying different things, I loaded the Logo which was a BMP into Paint and saved it as a JPG.
The size of BMP was 108 kb while the JPG was just 6 kb

The combination of ddoc and PDFCreator and the same BMP yielded a PDF of 61 kb. Using QuickPDF it was about 198 kb for the PDF. Customers complained about the size inccrease because these PDF's are stored on the web server for customers to review. An extra 100kb per PDF is a big issue when they store 36 months at 14,000 statements per month.

With the JPG involved we got the PDF down to 95 kb from 198 kb. It was a material issue.

I also put in a support ticket for why on certain computers using the same data, same graphic and same program the pdf's are coming out at 24 megabytes. So far 2 customers have their pdf's coming out at 2.5 meg when they used to be less than 100 KB using ddoc and PDFCreator.

We don't use PDFCreator anymore because QuickPDF is extremely fast in comparison. Sometimes PDFCreator choked on 14,000 pdf statements run.

That is just our experience.

the graphical functions in QuickPDF are working together with the gdi+.dll
The dll isn't a must for all windows-installations - due to this fact differences (gdi+ can be missing) could be possible. Linking cairo and agg as a gdi+ replacement is possible, too.
QuickPDF offers relevant functions for implementing.

Cheers,
Ingo
