Hi,
I have an existing app that uses 5.14 to merge two PDFs, with MergeFiles(). One PDF is two pages of mostly text. The other PDF is scanned pages and varies in the number of pages. Most of the time merging works fine. Some of the scanned PDFs continually cause the app to hang-up, resulting in zero byte files. PDFs are supposed to be scanned at 300dpi, B&W. I know that many - and I believe all - of the problem PDFs are scanned in color and at higher resolutions. Some of the files are over 100MB, but some are as small as 10 or 15MB.
I don't think that the file size has anything to do with it. There are some that succeed that are larger than the 15MB files that fail. There are also ones that succeed that have more pages than ones that fail. They should all be generated by either Adobe Acrobat or VeryPDF's PDFCamp. So, I don't think that there should be any odd properties causing the problem. I assume that it has to do with the color depth and resolution.
Any suggestions about this? Will upgrading to version 7 fix this problem?
Thanks
David

Hi David!
"... Will upgrading to version 7 fix this problem? ..." Two ways to get an answer: 1. Upload one of your "problem-pdfs" ... so we can try. 2. Do the upgrade and try yourself.
As far as i know was the main change in version 5.14 the number 5.14. It's nearly the same version like 4.48... and that's really old. The newer 7.xx-version supports new encryptions standards and much more ... you should do the upgrade.

Ingo,
They PDFs are people's medical records. So, I can't post the PDFs. I was going to try the newer version, but without a current license key, it seems to only process the first page. I will have to see if the client wants to upgrade.
Thanks
David
