Merging PDF across network

We have an application using "mergefilelist" to merge PDF's.  The application and the individual PDF's are on a PC and we are writing the merged PDF file over the network to another PC.  The problem is that we are getting error code 401 and sometimes 402.  Could this be because the we are doing this over a network?
