    Posted: 02 Mar 18 at 6:05PM
Hi,

I wish to apply compression to the existing images in PDF file. Is it possible for me to set the Image Quality and Resolution for the existing images in a given PDF file and then save the resulting PDF as a new file without assembling the entire PDF file manually?

Waiting for your reply...

Cheers,

Ross.

Hi Ross,

for already existing images there's no one-click-function in QuickPDF.
You can do similar things with extracting images from pdf-documents:
This... http://www.quickpdf.org/forum/topic376&KW=swb1.html
or that... http://www.debenu.com/kb/extract-images-from-pdf-files-as-the-appropriate-image-type/
Work on them with a third party tool...
and replace the existing images with the new smaller ones:
http://www.debenu.com/docs/pdf_library_reference/ReplaceImage.php

You'll find more here:
http://www.debenu.com/docs/pdf_library_reference/Search.php

Cheers,
Ingo

Hi :)

i think "... added to the document..." (from the reference) means "added in this moment"
and not "being already inside".

Thanks so much guys for your help. I will try out the "extract image, compress and replace" algorithm. I'm sure it will work good.

Oh I see.

Maybe we can combine:

http://www.debenu.com/kb/extract-images-from-pdf-files-as-the-appropriate-image-type/
http://www.debenu.com/docs/pdf_library_reference/ReplaceImage.php
http://www.debenu.com/docs/pdf_library_reference/CompressImages.php

I mean extract, + replace with the same data but + CompressImages

I hope CompressImages toogether with ReplaceImage should made the trick..... but I never tested this before.

I also staying in hope that we can use:
OriginalImageIDint32 = NewImageIDint32
In such case we should be able to do this without any file/disc operation.

QP aren't able to use MRC.
Relevant images for mrc-compression need a special internal data structure.
These special internal data structure isn't taken into account regarding the image handling in the QP-functionalities.

Cheers,
Ingo
