Detecting password

   I generate a password for a form file that is sent to users and returned to be processed.
I give the sender the option of encrypting with or without a password.

In processing the file, I need to obviously test for which method was used prior to trying to open it.

I can't seem to find the right method to simply tell me if an actual password was used or a null password.

Any advice would be appreciated
