In short layers in Quick PDF Library refer to content streams and optional content groups in Quick PDF Library refer to what Acrobat calls layers.

As Ingo said, send your docs to the official support team and they can help you out.

    Author: mountainman1957
Subject: 1784
Posted: 26 Mar 11 at 11:45PM

Hello Helpful People!

I've hit a very annoying problem with MoveLayer in certain files. Hopeful someone out there knows what it is I'm missing...

My app requires combining the layers of an existing PDF file and then adding new layers above and below the original for graphical processing. The graphics are used to mark out areas of text in the original document for processing. With many test files, no problem. The basic plan has been:

CombineLayers

NewLayer (7 times)

MoveLayer 1 to layer 3.

Now I'm finding some files that always fail at stage 3 and there seems to be no way around it. Some (all??) of these files have an Optional ContentGroup, but I've deleted that before CombineLayers.

What am I missing, please ?

The files giving the problem are from various sources but they generally have some security and a watermark. However, I can successfully get rid of both by using ExtractPages or ExtractPageRanges.

It is only page 1 in each file that refuses to allow MoveLayer (or DeleteLayer) though it will allow CombineLayers and SplitPageText. I can insert a page before, using InsertPages, but that doesn't help.

If I use ExtractPages and omit page 1, everything works on the remaining pages. If I use ExtractPages to extract page 1 with or without other pages, page 1 still refuses to play ball.

I have searched for images, checked Objects, done a repair with PDFTK. Nothing works! I've also looked through the extracted files in Notepad but nothing stands out. Clearly I'm guessing there is something on page 1 in each of these files that is preventing manipulation of the layers, but it is not obvious what it is.

Edited by mountainman1957 - 27 Mar 11 at 6:24PM
